Ethyl Silicate Zinc Rich Paste Primer
Description:
PFZE-3020 is a high performance two-component protective primer which is able to protect the metal surfaces. Considering the film zinc content, a 75-100 microns dry film would protect the substrate against corrosion in aggressive conditions. It is also applicable in hot and sultry environments and in compatible with several intermediate and top coats. In the case of high porosity, thickness should be increased up to 125 microns. This shop primer is able to be used without top coat.
It can be used as first layer in heat resistant systems.
Advantages:
- Cathodic protection in damaged area of coating
- Good weather resistance
- High chemical resistance in pH=5.5-9.5 limitation
- Good heat resistance
Main uses:
- Tanks, canals and pipelines containing chemicals and fuel, solvent tanks
- Marine utilities and platforms above the splash zone in hot and sultry zones
- Ships and boats
- Refineries, petrochemical and power plants, bridges
- Metal structures

Application Guide:
Surface preparation:
All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from contaminants, grease, dust, rust, moisture and any loose particles. Metal substrates such as steel and iron are sand blasted up to SA2 grade. SA2 ½ is recommended in aggressive condition (e.g. water immersion). The painting process should be done immediately after removing the dust of air blasting.
Application:
After surface preparation, paste component (containing zinc powder) is stirred slowly and poured into component A and mixed for 10 minutes using a suitable mixer until a homogenous solution is achieved. It is recommended to filter the mixture with wired and fabric filter before use. The paint can be diluted with T-800 thinner gradually while mixing.
It is necessary to stir the mixture continuously to avoid zinc sedimentation.
PFZE-3020 is applied using ordinary air or airless spray and small damaged and unpainted area can be repaired by brush. Using suitable ventilation is necessary while paint application is done in close places.
All tools should be washed with T-800 thinner after the application.
The thickness of PFZE-3020 shouldn’t exceed 125 microns. Also application in acidic or alkali environments is not recommended. After paint application, the coating should be wet by water spraying on the coated structures or covering the surface with water-holding tissues like sacks, to be fully cured in warm and dry environments.
Ambient condition:
Ambient temperature should be in range of +10 ºC to +50 ºC during paint application.
Storage:
12 months, in unopened package & protect from direct sun light and heat source at +5 ºC to +40 ºC.
